General Music
Northwood students follow a curriculum developed by the West Seneca Central School district music department. Children in grades K-6 meet twice weekly for music instruction. Children are engaged in the world of music through singing, listening, moving, playing instruments and creating music. Also the students learn and perform music melodies, rhythms and identify form, design and styles of music. Choral opportunities are available for 5th and 6th graders. Students in 3rd and 4th grade can also participate in chorus.
Instrumental Music
Instrumental lessons are offered to all 4th-6th graders. String, brass, woodwind and percussion lessons are given once per week on a rotating time schedule. There are band (brass, woodwind and percussion) and orchestra (strings) rehearsals held once per week. Some students are able, to participate in band and orchestra. Instruments may be rented, based upon instrument availability from school or a local music store. Students display their musical talents at a winter and spring concert.
